On Sunday April 27th 2025, Dave successfully completed the gruelling Stratford Marathon, all in aid of the vital Air Ambulance Service.
This wasn’t just another marathon for Dave; it was a deeply personal journey of gratitude and a powerful testament to the incredible work of the Air Ambulance Service. Back in 2018, Dave’s life took an unexpected turn when he suffered a cardiac arrest at the Belfry after a round of golf. In those critical moments, it was the swift response and expert care of the Air Ambulance Service that made the difference between life and death.
“Without their quick response time, I wouldn’t be here today” Dave shared, highlighting the profound impact the charity had on his life. This experience fuelled his determination to give back and support an organisation that relies entirely on voluntary donations to keep its life-saving missions airborne.
Supporting The Air Ambulance Service
The Air Ambulance Service operates essential local air ambulance services for Warwickshire & Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland. Furthermore, they provide the national paediatric and neonatal transfer service, the Children’s Air Ambulance, covering the entirety of the UK. Every mission undertaken by these dedicated professionals comes at a significant cost, with an average life-saving mission requiring £2,300. As they receive no direct government funding for their daily operations, the generosity of communities and businesses is their lifeline.
Dave’s commitment to this cause was evident in his tireless fundraising efforts leading up to the marathon. His initial target was ambitious, and thanks to the incredible support of his network, he has already raised a fantastic £4,096!
Reflecting on the race, Dave shared, “Right Marathon complete, it hurt a lot and was hotter than I would have liked, but to complete my recovery journey with my daughters joining me for the finish made it all worth while! Scary thought is if I didn’t survive my youngest wouldn’t be here!” The emotional weight of the day was palpable, underscoring the personal significance of this achievement.
He also expressed his heartfelt appreciation, saying, “Thanks to everyone who got my marathon fundraising over £4000 for The Air Ambulance Service really appreciate the support!“
