This role operates within the maintenance/engineering department, working with a small team of engineers to assist in the efficient and smooth running of the business. The role will be reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, and you will provide a hands-on engineering service to the production operation by ensuring that all plant and equipment is maintained in accordance with the PPM plan to ensure that planned production is achieved with minimal down time.
Working within a small team of engineers, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, the Engineer carries out all aspects of plant maintenance, including electrical PLC controlled switchgear, inverter-controlled drives, solenoid and limit switching and have a good understanding of schematical wiring diagrams. The Engineer will also repair/replace all types of heavy machinery including conveyors, elevators, compressors, hammermill grinders, pellet presses, steam boilers and have experience in pneumatic and hydraulic controlled equipment to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the feed mill. There will also be a requirement for fabrication work including welding and machine installation, and training will be provided where required. In addition, accurate recording of all maintenance activities for legal compliance and work in accordance to the company’s current health and safety at work policy will be required.
The successful candidate will be experienced in a similar role and have an electrical qualification/apprenticeship to at least City and Guilds 18th edition electrical installation. With a positive attitude, able to work to the high standards, while under pressure the successful candidate will be motivated, creative in finding short- and long-term solutions and work in a safe manner, while being computer literature, especially in Microsoft excel and word.
Preferred skills and/or qualifications:
- Experience within an FMCG or Manufacturing environment desirable
- Computer literate, particularly with regard to Microsoft Office and spreadsheets.
- City & Guilds Qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Problem solving.
- Knowledge of the food or packaging industry would be advantageous
