Lab Analyst – Herefordshire

Working within the R&D team, reporting on the levels of macro + micronutrients in a variety
of sample types to assist the growers to tailor fertigation recipes to match plant uptake/demand.

Tasks:
1. Accurately and consistently perform all sample preparation procedure in a timely manner and in line with laboratory SOP’s
2. Run samples on laboratory instrumentation independently, checking QC performance and organising re-testing as required
3. Examine and integrate all spectra in a consistent and accurate manner in line with analytical norms
4. Review and report all analytical results identifying issues/trends and liaising with the R&D manager prior to reporting
5. Preparation of all eluent/analytical solutions/standards as per relevant SOP’s
6. Maintain Laboratory equipment as per relevant SOP’s, changing consumable items routinely as required
7. Investigate and diagnose minor instrument issues and attempt to rectify under supervision of the R&D manager
8. Perform all routine laboratory check (water quality, pH/EC calibration, etc.) as required
9. Liaise with 3rd party providers to schedule the routine preventative maintenance of
laboratory instrumentation and equipment
10. Follow stock control and order all consumables, liaising with suppliers, & maintaining
expenditure records to assist with budget control
11. Maintain a clean & safe working environment, maintaining the highest standards of housekeeping particularly with respect to storage of materials, chemicals and solvents
12. Assist with the creation of site sampling plans
13. Assist with the completion of other R&D tasks as required (e.g. Trial data entry, strawberry breeding programme, R&D trials, etc.)

Attributes:
1. Experience in a laboratory-based environment with some knowledge of chemistry/analytical chemistry preferable
2. Has the ability to work independently and efficiently, has patience and importantly initiative. Attention to detail; accurate and detailed record-keeping and reporting; excellent verbal, written, communication and interpersonal skills; planning, organisation and time management skills.
