Football Tournament for QEHB Charity

It was a cloudy day in Birmingham as our Charity 5-a-side football tournament was about to get underway at Goals, Star City. But our teams were looking to light up the pitch as they aimed to walk away with this years’ trophy and £500 first prize. The tournament was arranged by Pure Staff in association with Abacus Outsourcing to raise much needed funds for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity (QEHB).

The four teams that powered their way past the group and quarter final stages and straight through to the semi-finals were the talented Grosvenor Casino who took on surprise package of the tournament, Shenley. And the energetic Beach Boys battled it out against the silky skills of Perfect Personnel.

It was a valiant effort from Shenley to make it to this stage of the football tournament, but Pure Staff’s Dave Whitehouse was unable to inspire his team against a rampant Grosvenor Casino who ran out comfortable 5-0 winners to book their place in the final.

Perfect Personnel also booked their place in the final after seeing out a closely fought contest against a resilient Beach Boys, managed by Pure Staff’s George Beach. They put up a stern fight despite the absence of their manager but the game was eventually decided after a sudden death shootout after the two teams were tied at 2-2.

It was an entertaining final with both teams gunning for goals. A mistake by the PP keeper led to Grosvenor smashing home the first goal of the game. PP were soon back level after the Grosvenor keeper was unable to hold onto the ball from a low shot which eventually trickled its way into the net. After two well worked goals from PP a 3-1 lead appeared comfortable until Grosvenor broke free and a snap shot into the top corner brought them right back into the game. A couple of decent saves from the PP keeper kept Grosvenor at bay and PP finally broke their way into the opposing half with some great individual skill, finishing off the game with a smooth strike low into the bottom corner of the net to make it 4-2.

Congratulations to the winners Perfect Personnel who take home the Christine Whitehouse Cup and our £500 prize!
