Slavery is a global problem that persists to this day. It’s estimated that there are more than 49.6 million people in modern slavery, with forced labour accounting for 27.6 million of those cases, according to the International Labour Organization.
Despite the large scale of the problem, many people are unaware of its existence or think that it only happens in developing countries. In reality, slavery can be found in all corners of the world and affects people of all ages, genders and backgrounds.
Anti-Slavery Day was established as a way to raise awareness of modern slavery and what can be done to eradicate it. The day is marked annually on 18th October across the UK and Europe.
About Stronger Together
‘Stronger Together’ is a not-for-profit organisation that works to tackle modern slavery in supply chains and businesses. This impact-driven organisation provides businesses with practical training, resources, business services, and collaborative programmes in order to create a world where all workers are recruited responsible and have fair work, free from exploitation.
Pure Staff strongly believes that businesses can be a force for good and that by working together we can make a real difference in the fight against worker exploitation.
The aim of ‘Stronger Together’ is to provide businesses with the tools and resources they need to ensure their recruitment processes are ethical and responsible, and that their workers are treated fairly.
The organisation offers a range of business services including training workshops, bespoke consultancy services, and innovative collaborative programmes which bring businesses together to share best practices and drive change.
There are free resources specifically designed to support UK labour providers, and ALP labour provider members can access free training on how to tackle worker exploitation.
There are many ways to get involved in the campaign. You can start by learning more about the issue and sharing what you’ve learned with others. There are also lots of opportunities to volunteer your time or donate money to support the work of organisations fighting slavery.
No one should have to live in fear of exploitation and violence. By coming together and taking action, we can make a difference and create a world where everyone is free.

In particular: Directors, Managers, Consultants, Administration staff all undertake training that includes guidance around modern slavery and human trafficking, as well as other wider human rights issues. They also receive awareness-raising information around issues involving modern slavery and human trafficking, so that they can bring any concerns they have to the attention of management.
